The Evolution of My Kitchen

In the beginning, I had a kitchen.  It was a cute little kitchen, thought it was very dated.  See the wall behind the trash can?  On the other side of that wall there was a shower - it was like a little room.  It too, needed to be updated.

My biggest dislike about this kitchen was it had no dishwasher and a VERY outdated sink.

I asked my landlord and good friend if he could replace the sink with a new one and add a dishwasher.  To me delight, he suggested a complete kitchen remodel.  And so in December, 2012, the adventure began!

The first task was we decided since the shower would also have to be replaced, why not reclaim that space for the kitchen?  So the shower was demolished and the walls came done and a new shower was added to the existing beautiful porcelain tub!

I wish I had taken a picture before it got to this point.

The entrance to the shower from the bathroom side.

The view from the bathroom once the walls came down.

And again, from the kitchen.

Eventually, the bathroom was sheetrocked and the new shower in place!

Then things looked like this.  Note the old sink is still there.

And then, lots more demolition and I moved into what I refer to as  my "camp kitchen" mode.  I thought this would last maybe a month or so.   I was SO very wrong...

For at least 3 months, this is what my kitchen looked like.  I cooked on a Cuisinart griddle for the most part and my coffee maker resided in my living room.  In retrospect, it really sucked!!

Then, sometime around May or June, all of this happened!

And then I came home from a week away in July, expecting more to have been done.  There was.  I had NO sink.  Within 3 days, I had a temp sink...

So here we are at the brink of September.  All of the following pictures I took this morning.  I just want it to be done.  It is frustrating and disruptive to me.

There are also cabinets above the sink area.  The moral of this story is - renting an apartment from a friend has it's challenges.  Let me just say this.  The pro's of living here FAR outweigh the cons, and I am not posting this because I want to bash him in any way.  Eventually it will be the kitchen I want it to be and my home will feel settled again.  So comment all you want about the kitchen, but any negative comments will be removed.

  1. Definitely lots of pro's living there and you are a very good friend and patient tenant. I am sure the end result will be great. :) And hopefully before Christmas! :)
